“Sister Corona was born in Chicago in 1879. In 1897, she entered the Community of Sisters of St. Francis, Joliet, Illinois. Sister Corona spent seventy years in the religious life. Sixty of those years were devoted to music for the glory of God, through the musical education of children.

Sister came to St. Mary’s in 1938 as a teacher of voice, piano and organ in our school as well as organist in our church. Sister Corona served in this capacity for almost twenty years. During this time, she also gave private voice lessons in one of the convent houses on Mohawk Street. During these lessons, she taught a very valuable life lesson to the young men in her care. During the week of Mother’s Day, she would dial the phone and when Mom answered, the young man would sing a song he had been practicing for the past month, “That Wonderful Mother of Mine”. It is probably the first time he had ever heard his mom cry tears of joy. Thank you, Sister.

Sister Corona retired to St. Francis Convent in 1957, and passed away in August 1966. Requiescat in Pace.” - by Ed Quickert
